Nahant Celebrates Earth Day with Beach Cleanup
April 6th "01908 Day"
By Heather Collins, Beautification Committee
An event is being planned for April 6th, 2013, in celebration of Earth Day, which is being called "01908 Day". During the day, the core purpose of this event will focus on cleaning up Nahant's beaches and public spaces.
All Nahant's groups and organizations are invited and most definitely are needed, to help clean and prepare the beaches and shores for spring.
Plans for a cookout after the clean up is also being organized. The goal for the cookout is to provide a fun, community fair and social atmosphere to begin the spring season and celebrate the end of winter in our Town!
Each organization that would like to be involved will be asked to take one area, to be responsible for the cleaning, i.e., a beach or park.
Also, groups who want to take part in 01908 Day is to have a presence at the cookout by setting up a table to provide residents with information about their group, so our community can reconnect with all the wonderful groups in Town. One last request is: each group will be asked to send out an email, or a mailing to their lists, promoting 01908 Day. We will certainly provide the email text. We want this to be a great day of community spirit and community building and we would love to have everyone in Nahant involved.
We plan on focussing our energies to cleaning the following locations, (obviously if other groups would like to take on additional locations we will not object) Short Beach, Tudor Beach, Forty Steps Beach, Canoe Beach, Town Wharf, Marjorum Park, Flash Road Playground, Library Playground, Bailey's Hill and Sears Gazebo.
The organizers of 01908 Day (Beautification Committee) has already coordinated with Town management to have all the of the materials that are cleaned up, removed on the day of 01908 Day. Trash bags and tools, needed for the cleanup, will be provided.
The Town is already committed to help in any way. All that's left is your group's participation and all of our friends and family members, out cleaning up Nahant and celebrating together on April 6th.
Lynn Youth Hockey Bantam's State Bound
Congrats to
Nahanters Donovan, Doyle and Peterson
In what was to be a tough game for the District 2 Championship turned out to be exactly that. The Lynn Bantam AAA team would face off against a very talented Marblehead Bantam AAA team for the District 2 Championship. Both teams won their semi-final games to move into the Championship game (Lynn beating Cape Ann and Marblehead beating North Andover). Lynn would pull out in front of Marblehead 2-0 midway through the second period but Marlblehead would keep the pressure on scoring in the second period to cut the lead in half 2-1 heading into the third period. The third period would have both teams limiting each other on scoring opportunities until midway through the 3rd period when Jonathan Kosmas would make a nice pass to Jack Morretti for a one timer to put Lynn ahead 3-1. Lynn would hold off Marblehead to move onto the Massachusetts Tier II State Championship in March.
The Lynn Bantam AAA team is currently in 1st place in the Valley League in the White North Division.
The Bantams will also compete in the Niagra Bauer Hockey Tournament in April competing against teams from all over the world including Russia, Slovakia along with teams from Canada and the U.S.
